I left my house Sunday morning and was out walking at 6:25am. By the first mile I was a sweaty dripping mess. On tap was a nine mile walk. 4.5 miles out and then back. (Don't like going around in circles very much.) Was doing pretty good and had an average 14:30 pace. Was drinking water about every 3 miles and had a clifshot at mile 6.5. VERY VERY HOT and HUMID!! By mile 7.5 I could feel I was slowing down and getting physically tired. Not sure what was up with that, normally 9 miles is not that big of a deal. The last mile was tough and about hald of that I was strolling at about a 20min pace. Got home and in the kitchen to get ice cold water was feeling a bit dizzy. Got in the pool to cool off and float around to get off my feet. Felt good but the pool was a chilly 84 degrees.
Took my shower and ice bath to chill out my muscles.
I have decided that training for a half marathon in the summer in southern Florida is a stuipd idea. I also need to get out earlier and maybe do a walk in Friday and not Saturday before my long walks on Sunday. Only 8weeks until the DL 1.2!!!
Good Training everyone.

Weston July4th 5K
Today I had a 5K local race in Weston, FL. About 500 or so people. Very, very humid. All I had to do was step out of the car and the sweat came pouring down. I met an ex-coworker. She is what I like to call a wogger. She jogs and wals. She had been having some shin pain so hasn't been out wogging consistanly for about the last 2weeks or so.
The race started at 7:10am and I got to the start line about 7:12am. Time was based on gun time and not chip time. Did very well with pacing and caught up to the older lady (in her 80s) and passed her at mile 1.6 or so. I came across the finish line feeling good and could've kept going for a bit longer. The timing system used was the first time for the South Florida area made by ChronoTrack Systems. It is a tag that goes in your laces and is diposable, so after the race you don't have to have someone remove it. It's yours and you can keep it as a suvi or throw it away. Pretty cool. Just not too excited because if all the other timing people change then my Championchip that I own will be retired. My friend crossed the finish line about 3 minutes after me. Official time was 41:24 for 3.10 miles. My Garmin 405 had 3.14 miles in 41:30 with pace of 13:14. That's pretty good. Trying to do 5ks in under 13:30 pace so that was a victory for me.
I just have a feeling that when the weather is a bit cooler and drier I will put in better numbers.
Training for the Disneyland Half Marathon is coming along nicely. I think I will avoid this race in the future. It's just so hot training in the summer. I have 1 month and 26 days until the big event.
Have a great 4th of July everyone. God Bless America.

Weekend Stuff...
On my training walk on Saturday I had a little stumble. I tripped on one of the reflective thingys that are on the road and stubbed my right front big toe. This is a toe that I had surgery on about 2 years ago. Needless to say, it hurt like a bugger. So I limped a bit and then kept going. It felt ok after awhile. Today it did effect my racewalking form and the pushoff of the toes, the ball of that foot started to complain after awhile. So, my 8 miles were for the miles and not the time.
When I got home I immediately got in the 85 degree pool to cool off (hehe) swam for a bit and did some stretching. I then got in the shower and did my ice bath for 15min.
I will try to rest the foot and take some ibuprofen.
Have a good Sunday and go Kasey Kahne #9!!!

Tough week at work, blah blah
It was a tough week at work. One of my cooworkers got very ill around lunch time on Monday. Not to mention she is pregnant with twins and it is a very high risk pregnancy!! She left at lunch. Another cooworker broke her toe, jammed other toe and sprained her foot and so she is gimping around the office. So short handed and rushing around like crazy!!! On Tuesday the one who was pregnant was still not feeling well, so only done one person. Another cooworker now has a migraine and is not geeling well off and on during the day. UGH!!!! I just put on my "happy face" like a cast member at Disneyworld and tried my best to hang in there.
Tuesday after work I decided my training walk would be over at Vista View Park in Davie, FL. I call is Mount Trashmore. In South Florida the trash dumps are actually hills or mountains because you can't bury it so it goes up. This is an old dump that is now a county park. It has a horse/trail made of mulch and gravel that goes up and around the one hill that's open and a paved road that goes around the bottom and up to the top. I loved it. Here is Mount Trashmore.

Also this week I got my new Garmin 405 with Heart Rate Monitor. Tuesday was my first day to play with it and it was fun using it at Mount Trashmore!! Wednesday I used it while I rode my bike around the neighborhood. I used it last night at Brian Piccolo Park and I did 4 miles and again did one mile as fast as I could. HR monitor said my highest was 181 and I did that mile 3 in 13:05 pace. Not too bad.
Tonight when I got home I did my Pilates for Dummies video. Now I'm off to eat dinner. Take care.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday
I got in my 7 miles today during which I had a bug chase me starting at about 1.92 miles and when on til about 2.03 miles. That was not plesant. I don't know why these little bugs find it necessary to fly around and around your head buzzing all the time. It freaks me out. Today I decided to just to a steady pace. So 7 miles in 1hr 43min and 57.79 seconds.
Saturday (yesterday) I did a 4mile walk and tried to do the 3rd mile as fast as I could and was doing fine until about 3.65 and felt my lungs were hurting a bit and so I slowed down. I felt better, I just think the heat and a bit of pushing myself got me into that situation.
Trying to be good about shutting off lights, fans and such when not needing them or leaving the room. The FPL bill was very high last month. I have already cut back some on the driving. I friend from work and I are trying to car pool at least once a week.
Today is a recovery day from the 7 miles, ice my left hamstring, watch some NASCAR!!
Have a great day.

Gnats...
I hate them, just in case you wanted to know. Last nights walk consisted of gnats, gnats and more gnats. I did a 4mile walk and my plan was to make one of those miles a speed mile. In other words try to go as fast as I can and hold that for one mile. This plan had its hitch and that was the swarming gnats. With that in mind, I quickly decided mile 2 was going to be it just in case I got smothered by the gnats. The second mile I did at an average pace of 13min 13sec, I'm sure it would have been better without my little teeny tiny friends all over and stuck on my neck, face, hair, and I even found some stuck in my shoe laces - yuk. They really creeped me out, but I kept going to get in all 4 miles.
All in all it was 4 miles in 57min 22.69sec average pace of 14min 20sec.
Left hamstring closer to the knee has been bothering me here and there since May. Trying to stretch the hamstring as much as a can and trying to keep it gentle. Did some Pilates core work and rode my bike about 5 miles on Wednesday. Was trying to mix it up and last Tuesday I was only able to get in 2.50 miles because it was raining.
On another note, gas prices are rediculous!!!

Rainy Morning
Its a sprinkly rainy morning here. Tuesday and Thursday I got out and did my 3 miles at Brian Piccolo Park. Thursday's walk did entail rain. Not too bad though it was kinda light rain, plus when you add in the sweat a little bit of rain doesn't really matter. It was a very busy week at work being that it was the first official week after school is out and people wanting to get in before the sleep-away camps start and summer vacations start. Ugh!
Today I got out there around 7:15 and did 3.05 miles and used my new Ipod Nano 2nd gen. (the skinny one, I like the shape better than the new Nano) for the first time. It was ok, but I think I need faster paced music and such. I won't use it for the longer walks just the shorter ones. Time for the walk was 43min 20.59sec, pace was 14:13min a mile. I can't believe that Tim Russert from NBC passed away yesterday. He was 58 and died of a heart attach from a plaque deposit that broke loose and stopped the blood flowing to his heart.
Today is the first game for the UM Baseball team in Omaha that start at 7pm. I hope they win!!!
I am anxiously awaiting my new Garmin 405, supposed to be here in a week or so.
I have about 2 1/3 months before the Disneyland trip and Half Marathon. I am flying out of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday the 28th and coming back Sunday the 31st late in the evening. So I am still planing what I will do while I am there. I will be staying with my Aunt who lives in Fullerton and then the night before the half Marathon I have a room near the park. I need to figure out what I would like to see and do while I'm there.
